Home Sweet Hill: CH squads roll to victory on Homecoming

Chapel Hill’s Red Devils and Lady Devils celebrated Homecoming Friday in front of a packed house looking to continue their respective hot streaks.

This year’s Homecoming court included Homecoming King and Queen Luke Nichols and Jayce Eubanks, queen’s court Ramsey Applegate, Mary Katherine Rowe and Emma Snodgrass; king’s court Colson Payne, Kale Turner and Elijah Swiger; CH Junior High Prince and Princess Jackson Flood and Kailyn Brannon, Freshman Prince and Princess Adam Biegler and Lucy Hernandez, Sophomore Prince and Princess Isaac Bailey and Keira Hawkins and Junior Prince and Princess Braden Buchanan and Abbie Harbour.

On the court, the basketball teams took on Winona looking to make it a happy night on the Hill.

The Lady Devils took on a Winona team in the midst of a rough season that has seen them shut out twice on the year and, due to injuries and numbers in the program, forced to forfeit several times in the district slate.

Chapel Hill took care of business, pulling their starters in the third quarter as the 12th-ranked Lady Devils picked up an 80-13 win over the Lady Wildcats. Chapel Hill jumped out to a 26-0 lead and led at halftime, 46-2.

Katie Hart led Chapel Hill with 22 points. Mackenzie Espinosa added 10. Hannah Rhea added eight. Kaylee Tompkins, Ellie Wooten, Madison Manning, Karlee Rodgers and Neeley Grimes all put in six. Abigail Thrapp scored five, Kaydey White put in four and Kiera Hawkins finished with one.

Dezmiana Hampton led Winona with 10 points. Arianna Becarra added three.

In the boys’ game, the Red Devils looked to sweep the Wildcats. Winona started the game on a 6-1 run, but Chapel Hill controlled the action for the rest of the game as the eighth-ranked Red Devils rolled, 96-48.

Chapel Hill led after the first quarter, 20-7, and took a 42-17 lead into halftime. The Devils then scored 37 points in the third quarter as they got hot from beyond the arc.

Braden Buchanan led Chapel Hill with 35 points, eight rebounds and three assists. C.J. Kump added 14 points, three rebounds and two steals. Casey House put in 11 points, two rebounds and six assists. Anthony Ramirez finished with nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Max Daniel notched eight points and four assists. Adrian Ramirez had four points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Isaac Bailey finished with four points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks. Rylee French put in four points, Jaydyn Haley added three points, two rebounds and four assists and Julian Soto finished with two points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Nate Hampton led Winona with 16 points. Cabron Hampton and LurBryson Ross both added 11 and Justin Johnson scored six.

The JV Red Devils picked up a 61-24 win over Winona. Angel Banda led Chapel Hill with 21 points. Carter Alphin added 11. Rhett Barley and Kade Barley both put in six, Jaydyn Madison scored five, Levi Rodgers and Karter McCollum both scored three and Ricky Ramirez, PJ Ramirez and Abbott Harbour all added two.

Chapel Hill hosted Mount Vernon Tuesday, weather permitting, and will travel to Winnsboro Friday.
