CH hoops teams both ranked, extend winning streaks

The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils will both go into the holidays on a good note.

The Lady Devils traveled to Central Heights recently for the Central Heights Holiday Hoopfest, bringing home the tournament title after finishing undefeated for the event.

The Lady Devils defeated Hitchcock, Henderson, the host Blue Devils and won over Hitchcock in the title game 66-57. Katie Hart was named tournament MVP and Mackenzie Espinosa was named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Devils hit the road in their first game back against Gilmer, picking up a 62-54 win over the Lady Buckeyes. Chapel Hill returned home for their district opener, rolling to a 71-24 win over Quitman Friday evening.

The Lady Devils, ranked ninth by TABChoops.org, 25th by txhsgbb.com and winners of their last six games, traveled to Harmony Tuesday and will take part in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament next week.

The Red Devils extended their own winning streak to 12 games with three wins in their last three games. Chapel Hill hosted Waskom last Tuesday, rolling to an 87-27 win over the Wildcats.

Casey House led Chapel Hill with 20 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. C.J. Kump added 15 points and two steals. Braden Buchanan finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Jaydyn Haley added 13 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Cayden Martinez added eight points and four steals and Julian Soto finished with eight points and six boards. Anthony Ramirez had six points and eight rebounds. Rylee French added two points and two rebounds and Isaac Bailey notched one point, eight rebounds and two assists.

The Devils then welcomed Sabine to town Friday, using a big third quarter to get past a game Cardinal squad, 65-42. Chapel Hill led at the half, 27-24, then outscored the Cardinals in the third quarter, 24-8.

The Red Devils traveled to Pittsburg for a matinee Monday, edging the Pirates, 54-49.

The 12th-ranked Red Devils opened district play Tuesday at Harmony and will also take part in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament next week.
