Noodlers recount cave brawl with 98.7 pound flathead, 14 feet down

  • Justin White (left) and Drew Moore recently caught and released this massive 98.7 pound flathead catfish with their bare hands while noodling at Lake Tawakoni. The men plucked the fish out of an underwater cave in 14 feet of water at the base of a bridge.

  • The huge fish was weighed on certified scales at Duck Cove Marina and released in the middle of the lake shortly thereafter. The fish was 56 inches long and had a 44-inch girth.

A nasty thunderstorm packing big wind, rain and dangerous lightning rolled across Lake Tawakoni on the afternoon of June 22. Justin Wright of Kaufman and Drew Moore of Chandler were on the water doing some noodling at the time.
