Resolve to make a big splash

The start of a new year has so many connotations, hopes and promises.People make resolutions to be better, do better and live better. But one thing I have learned in my six decades of living, a new year is really just another day. The first week of January is just the week after the last week of December, and the week before the second week of January. Or, in simpler terms, just another day.

That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with resolutions and such. I believe we make resolutions fairly daily. We resolve to be good people, we resolve to be good family members, and we resolve daily to do the things that make life what it is for us individually. Most resolve to go to a job each day and do what they must to earn a living. A lot of us here in the Bible Belt resolve to go to church in some fashion every week and do our best to live by the precepts we learn there. I don’t know about you, and it very well may be a flaw in my own walk, but it seems following those precepts on a daily basis gets harder every day.

There is a verse in 2 Timothy 3 that makes reference to the fact that in the last days, perilous times will come. If you are one that pays attention to state, national and world news it is impossible to not see that we live in some perilous days. On a daily basis my concern for the world that my grandchildren will grow up in concerns me. Our world is not the same world as that of our grandparents. Technology has fueled great advances, but it has also stoked the engine of hatred. The ready availability of so many forms of information sharing has not been good for our society. Terms like fake news have become a part of our vocabulary, and that is definitely not a good thing for any of us.
