What Wikipedia Can’t Tell You
After long days of too much activity for an old lady, I decided to relax and watch a TV show. Thinking I had picked a great one, I was all set in my comfy chair with a cold glass of tea. As the show opened, I knew immediately this was not going to be a relaxing evening.
The plot focused on a key political topic and in no uncertain terms, you knew which side this show was on. You would think I’d switch it off and find something else, but nooooo, not me. I stayed glued to my seat to see how far this rabbit trail would take me.
For the majority of the show, the subject of the show was presented from one side. Then, finally, the other side was addressed, however brief. In no way was this TV show fair and balanced. I had to remind myself these aren’t journalists, but scriptwriters, and they can push any political agenda they choose to push. And push they did!
I also was reminded I have to be careful what I watch and who I listen to. Today’s “entertainment” can be cunning and baffling (not to mention confusing and frustrating).
There are many issues we humans have strong feelings about. I, for one, am grateful to live in a country that allows such freedoms. I am even more grateful to have a Lord who lovingly and graciously wraps his arms around me to show me Truth and helps me establish boundaries for myself.
We could work 24 hours a day if our bodies and minds would let us. Nowhere is it written we need to be busy all the time, but we have the ability to control our boundaries. By creating balance in establishing boundaries for our busyness, we give ourselves breathing room. We give ourselves time to think, dream and plan, and also time to be alone with the Lord who gave us life.
Finding balance is possible. Establishing healthy boundaries is possible, carefully identifying what’s most important is possible. Then as we remove what’s not ours to do, we can breathe a sigh of relief at the beauty that’s revealed in our lives.
“You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free!” ( John 8:32) Oh, and for your information, I’m not watching THAT show again!
