Troy Neal Bland

Troy Neal Bland, age 92, passed from this life to his Eternal Home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Mount Pleasant, TX. He was born on April 1, 1930 in Upshur County, TX to Allen Bland and Velma “Patsy” (Gipson) Bland.

Troy was a long-time member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church, having joined in 1960 when he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Mount Pleasant. He was the church pianist for many years. He honorably served and retired as a Commander in the United States Navy Reserve.

He was a graduate of the University of Texas where he received his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He retired from SWEPCO where he was employed as an engineer. Troy was an avid reader, enjoyed genealogy research, and loved, adored, and cared for his family.

In addition to his parents, Allen and Patsy Bland, Troy is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara.

Left to cherish Troy’s memory and legacy is his loving family: son and daughter-in-law, Allen & Robin Bland of Frisco, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Joni & Jamie Meriwether of Mount Pleasant, TX; daughter, Johnette Cook of Corpus Christi; grandchildren: Amelia & husband Geoff Gastwirth; Jillian & husband Jason Grindele; Britney Cook; Troy Cook; John Meriwether; Joshua Meriwether; and Taylor Cook; great-grandchildren: Lillian & Elliott Gastwirth and Jordyn and Jameson Grindele.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday evening, February 24, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. Interment will follow in Mattox Cemetery in Upshur County, located east of Gilmer off Hwy 154 and Hwy 259, on Lazy Daisy Road off Hwy 726. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Troy’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
