Thurman was born on August 19, 1932 in Colbert County, Alabama and died September 2, 2023 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served two years during the Korean War. After his military service, he resumed his employment with Brown & Root, Inc. where he worked in purchasing and procurement for 38 years in many states. One of his proudest achievements was the erection of the Monticello Steam and Electric Power Plant in Mt. Pleasant.

He retired in 1989 and re-located to Cookville, Texas, where he began breeding Santa Gertrudis and Angus cattle, retiring from that in 2019 after suffering a stroke. He was a kind man and loved every minute he spent with his cattle and his career.

Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Myrtle Wright; his sisters, Lela Mae Towles, Sybil Thorne, Bernice Bozeman, Billie Ruth Reid; and nephew, Jack Bozeman, all of Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia; daughter and sonin- law, Julie and David Carpenter of Omaha; beloved grandchildren, Reagan Carpenter of Waco and Bradley Carpenter of Richardson; and sister-in-law and husband, Jeanie and Gary Confer of Washougal, Washington.

Also survived by his precious nieces, Lesa Young and Betty Horn; and nephews, George Thorne, Jimmy Bozeman, Alan Bozeman, Larry Reid, Tony Reid, Mike Reid, Andy Confer, and Matt Confer.

Due to the extreme heat, a graveside service will be held in the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
