Mattie Lee Tomlin, 76, of Mount Pleasant, TX, passed away on February 21, 2022. Mattie may have lost her earthly battle, but she gained her Heavenly Home. She was born March 11, 1945 in Pittsburg, TX, to Isaac and Eveleaner Phillips.
Mattie was a strong, kindhearted woman, filled with determination and fire. She was a very talented and hardworking woman, what she set her mind to do, she accomplished. She enjoyed painting, gardening, crafting, and most of all, reading her Bible. Over the years she held many jobs, including hauling pulpwood, working at Sears as a forklift operator, Pilgrim’s Pride on broiler farms, Plenty’s Horn as a painter, and Knieff ’s clothing store, but she loved being a Nene most of all. She enjoyed sharing her passions with her grandchildren and celebrated each one. She had a heart for animals and had many throughout her life. Her favorite food was chocolate, and she made a mean chocolate pie. In her life she shared the love of Christ with many people and lent a helping hand whenever she could.
Mattie was a long-time member of First Pentecostal Full Gospel Church in Pittsburg, TX. Mattie loved her Lord and Savior and always took the opportunity to spread His word. She was a fierce warrior of God, and never faltered in her love and devotion to Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Thompson of Mount Pleasant, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Teri Simmons of Pittsburg, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Isaac and Caroline Simmons of Royse City, TX; grandchildren: Justin Simmons, Ashley Thomas, Jeremiah Simmons, Amber Hill, Jesse Thompson, Josi Simmons; great-grandchildren: Emmett Thomas, Elam Thomas, Colt Hill, Remington Hill, Tommie Thompson, Johnny Hill, MacKenzie Hill; sisters: Sarah Phillips, Sally Roberts, Bessie Willard; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Wayne Tomlin; sisters: Pearl Busby, Myrtle Lou Phillips, Rosie Ellison, Lillie Overstreet, Mary Gatewood, Ruby Moss, Betty Holman; and brothers: I.J. Phillips, Billy Phillips, Robert Wayne Phillips; as well as two great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Jessie Hill.
Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 28, 2022, at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held at Smyrna Cemetery in Winnsboro, TX. Bro. Johnny Simmons will be officiating the services.
