Linda Gail Sandlin Matthews died Sunday, December 5, 2021, in Longview, Texas. She was born to James and Ruby Sandlin in Suwannee County, Florida, on March 12, 1948.
A graduate of David Lipscomb College, Linda was a retired English teacher and school librarian. She also attended Harding University and the University of Central Arkansas. She was a member of North Ridge Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.
Linda is survived by her husband, Donald “Ricky” Matthews of Mt. Pleasant and his children, Van and Carla Matthews of Longview, Kevin Matthews of Mt. Pleasant, and John and Elaine Matthews of Houston; grandchildren Kate Matthews of Mt. Pleasant and Evy and Coley Matthews of Longview. Surviving siblings and their spouses include Jimmie and Gene Swilley of Alachua, Florida; Ervin and Bobbie Sandlin of Searcy, Arkansas; Carl Sandlin of Lake City, Florida; Grant and Donna Sandlin of Beebe, Arkansas; Wayne and Nora Sandlin of High Springs, Florida; and Don and Mackye Sandlin of Beebe, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Francis Cannon, a sister-in-law Peggy Sandlin, stepdaughter-in-law Kim Matthews, and granddaughter Morgan Matthews
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 11, at 2 p.m. at North Ridge Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials can be made in memory of Mrs. Matthews to the Northridge Church of Christ Honduras Mission Fund, Mt Pleasant, Texas.
