Martha Moses McAlister, 94, passed away at her home on February 1, 2022. She was born on November 30, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, Texas to John Shamblin Moses and Frances Lela Copeland Moses.
Martha married Carlton Leroy McAlister in Texarkana, Texas on May 3, 1947 and had a loving marriage of 61 years before his death in 2008.
After living in Texarkana and Saint Louis for a short period of time, they moved to Pineville, Louisiana where their daughters Susan and Sheryl were born. In 1947, after being in Pineville for several years, they found themselves back in Titus County.
Martha worked for Mount Pleasant ISD for 21 years as a secretary for the high school and then ending her career at the administration building.
She is survived by her daughter Susan McAlister Prewitt and husband Randy, and daughter Sheryl Preddy. Also, her sister-in-law Joyce Moses of Sulphur, Louisiana. Four grandchildren Christopher Preddy, Lydia Preddy Grimes and husband Rusty, Marci Clanin and husband Jimmy of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Randall Prewitt and wife Kelsy of Pittsburg, Texas. Six great-grands Chantz Preddy, Neeley Grimes, Mac Clanin, Lynnlee Clanin, Kyler Prewitt and Ramsey Prewitt. Three great-great-grands Chacie Preddy, Malie Preddy and Sawyer Preddy.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Carlton, brother Billy J. Moses, stepmother Oladine Robken Moses and a stepsister Claudette Robken Grigsby.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church with internment to follow at Masonic Cemetery.
