John Carl DeLisle, 70, of Celeste, TX (and formerly of Mount Pleasant) passed from this life into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of September 18, 2023 in Dallas, TX. He was born on December 21, 1952 in Pittsburg, TX to Billy DeLisle and Marie (Porter) DeLisle.

“Johnny”, as he was affectionately known to his family, attended South Ward Elementary, P. E. Wallace Junior High, and MPHS, graduating in the Class of 1972. During the summers through high school, he worked alongside his dad who was employed by the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. Later he worked for the City of Mount Pleasant driving a waste management truck. After the City contracted waste removal to a private company, John worked delivering the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune. John’s final employment before retirement was working with his cousin, Tommy Johns, at Johns’ Iron and Metal in Lone Star, TX. John was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, Billy & Marie DeLisle, John is preceded in death by his grandparents, John Russell & Ruth (Bobbitt) DeLisle; James Carl Porter & Bonnie (West) Porter Baldwin, and special cousins: Tommy Johns, Jerry Dell Waller, and Harvey & Patricia Landrum.

Left to cherish John’s memory is his loving family: brother-in-law and sister, Weldon & Carolyn (DeLisle) Denny of Celeste, TX; niece, Tammy Denny of San Antonio, TX; nephew-in-law and niece, Jim A. & Kelly (Denny) Ehrman of Celeste, TX; nephew and niece-inlaw, Kirk & Cynthia (Butler) Denny of Tyler, TX; 7 great-nieces and –nephews: Chad & Misty (Currier) Anderson of San Antonio, TX; Michael & Amber (Currier) Drummonds of Firestone, CO; Josh & Kamie (Currier) Galindo of Midland, TX; Hunter & Kayli (Herff) Denny of Tyler, TX; Mason Denny of Tyler, TX; Ruth Marie Gambrell & Gabriel Arthur Gambrell of Celeste, TX; 13 great-great-nieces and –nephews; and special cousins: Cindy (Landrum) Couch of Flint, TX; David Landrum of Mount Pleasant, TX; Cindy (Durant) Sikes of Paris, TX; Kent & Susie (Durant) Ellington of Springtown, TX; and Russell Durant of Forestville, CA. Also surviving is one aunt, Dellaveen Kirkham of Midwest City, OK.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
