James Wayne Chopel passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in Mount Pleasant, TX. He was born July 31, 1950 in Pittsburg, TX to parents James Franklin and Ella Joy Nash Chopel.
He attended Mount Pleasant schools, graduating in 1968.
With his love of baseball, he played Little League and in High School, he was also in the Tiger Band.
Graduating in 1972 from East Texas State University Commerce, he began coaching Jr Hi football at Liberty Eylau, TX. In 1978 he taught briefly at Winfield, TX ISD before starting a career at TXU Electric Monticello, retiring in 1992.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; son, James Martin Chopel and Grandparents Ollie James & Essie Nash of Paris, Tx and Esther Chopel of Catasauqua, PA. Surviving are Granddaughters Samantha Stanley of Jessup, GA and Emily Chopel of Mount Pleasant, TX and Great-Grandchildren Tillie and Whaley Martin and Tatum Brockman. Also surviving are his sister, Kathy Cobb of Mount Pleasant, brother and sister-in-law John and Margaret Chopel of Canyon, TX and nieces Meredith Joubert of Tucson, AZ, Candy Haywood of Pflugerville, TX and Kristin Chopel of Oakland, CA.
No funeral or memorial services are planned.
