George A. Turner, Jr.

Funeral Service for George A. Turner Jr., 74, resident of Mt. Pleasant, will be 11:00 A.M Monday, August 28, 2023 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial in Piney Cemetery under the direction of Tumey Mortuary. He died, August 24, 2023 in Mt. Pleasant.

George was born June 29, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant to George A. and Virginia Turner.

He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a 1967 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Mt. Pleasant.

George loved sports, music, fishing and playing dominoes. He was an Army veteran. He was employed with Red River Army Depot, Dorchester Refinery and as a self-employed Landscaper.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Jeana Turner, his parents; brother Joe Cuellar; brothers-inlaw Findley Lyons and Lavell Jones.

George is survived by his wife Verma Turner of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; sisters Dixie Lyons of Houston, Texas, Laura Dixon of Dallas, Texas, Betty Portis of Springfield, OH, Mary (James) Watson; sisters-in-law Lendell Jones, Patricia Jones, Lula Cuellar all of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
