Professor Windell Rudolph Doddy was born to the late Vernon Ray and Merlene Doddy on June 07, 1954. He accepted the Lord as his personal saviour from an early age at the Shady Grove Baptist Church. From 1st to 11th grade, he attended Central Grove School in Cason (an all black school) In 1971 he started his senior year at Daingerfield High School from which he graduated in 1972. He then went on to graduate from Jarvis Christian College in 1978 with honors with a degree in Sociology and went on to earn a masters degree from East Texas State University in Commerce in 1976. He began teaching at Jarvis Christian College in 1978 and moved to Northeast Texas Community College in 1999 where he taught for 21 years until he retired in 2020.

He met and married Lenora A. Caraballo on December 22, 1979. He later re-married her on June 28, 2008 after years of being apart. He joined the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity in 1980. He served as the Chapter’s Social Action Director and was an active member until his death.

He loved traveling and traveled extensively. His travels took him to Hong Kong and Korea in 1994. Domestically, he traveled in over 40 states. He loved people and has given lectures through out Texas about diversity, history, race, and of course relationships.

He had a great sense of humor, loved reading especially comic books, fishing, and watching movies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Ray and Merlene G. Doddy; grandparents, Jummie and Ruth Gholston

(Hamilton), Nathaniel and Semmie Doddy; brother, Robert Earl Peters; sister-in-law, Katie Peters; and sister, Semia Young.

He left to mourn, his loving wife, Lenora; his son, Kelvin Brown; his sister, Marine Brown Lawton(Wilbert); his brother, Robin Ray Doddy (Jeanette); his sister April Hanson; his brother-in-law, Victor Young; and a granddaughter; his aunts, Peggy Doddy, Doretha Mizell ,and Willie Jane Stern; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends and colleagues.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Northeast Texas Community College Auditorium. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mr. Doddy will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the the funeral home.
