Funeral Service for Betty Smith, 88, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, will be 11:00 A.M Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church. Burial in Cortznes Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, under the direction of Tumey Mortuary. She died, November 27, 2022.
Born in Daingerfield, Texas on September 10, 1934 to L.T. Turner and Maryliza Younger. Betty was a graduate of Booker T. Washington high school and retired from Pilgrim’s Pride after 30 years. She was a member of Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church, the Lady Mujaji Club, Wisdom Circle, and Booker T. Washington Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings William Turner, Linda K. Hargrave, Earnest Marie Weeks and Booker T. Younger Jr.
She leaves her daughter and sonin- law Mary E. Hooks (Harold Sr.) of Longview; son Freddie L. Smith Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Terrie Sanders (Adam) of Dallas, ChiQuita Rousseau (Robert) of Kilgore, Harold Hooks Jr. and Kishanna Smith; great-grandchildren Ja’Mia and Julius Hooks all of Longview; siblings Carolyn McGinnis and Billye Muriel Turner both of Dallas; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; best friend Dorothy Nixon.
