The Mount Pleasant City Council held a meeting on April 4th. First on the agenda was the swearing in of Darrell Estes as an Associate of Municipal Judge.
Council then had a workshop to discuss and bring the public up to date on the Anderson Development Project. The team for this project and different city departments have met every week since November to discuss and create a development agreement to be voted on. The agreement lays out the financial and development terms that are needed. Project organizers feel they are close to having a complete agreement. They did make a minor change to the city’s last draft of the agreement; the city now has the agreement and it is ready to be revised.
The council then considered approval of the final pay request from Stansell Construction for work on Oaklawn Park Basketball Pavillion. Jeffery Boone presented the final pay request. The pay request is for $93,137. The work included is metal building erection, electrical, basketball goals, court resurfacing, painting, final grading, and seating. A few weeks ago, Boone walked the job with Ricky Harris and all was completed to the construction drawings. The council approved this final pay request from Stansell Construction for work on Oaklawn Park Basketball Pavillion.
Council then discussed and made action on Oaklawn Park Basketball Court Opening. Ricky Harris discussed with the council how they want to move forward with opening the Basketball Court. The question was “Do we open now or wait for Juneteenth?” These are some of the options that have been discussed internally. Over the next month, the entire park will take shape. Workers are installing playground equipment, still placing structures, and refurbishing the splash pad and the sand volleyball court. The council and Mr. Harris agreed to have the opening on Juneteenth since there will be continuous construction over the next month. Council took action to hold the grand opening once the community center and all construction is complete for safety reasons.
Council considered approval of a pay request from J2 Construction Services, LLC for work on 27inch Sewer Line repair. Lanny Buck of KSA spoke on this item. The pay request is for an emergency repair on the 27-inch swerve line just south of 49. A new line was placed with anchors and the pipe was encased.The council approved this pay request from J2 Construction Services, LLC.
The council then considered approval of a contract with Datamax for IT Services. Lori Mays asked the council to approve a new contract with Datamax for IT Services. Datamax currently provides this service for the city but the current contract is expiring. The new contract provides the same type of services, allowing for more users. The cost of the contract will increase from $144,000 to $189,000. The old contract was for three years; this new contract is for five years. The council approved this contract with Datamax for IT Services.
The council then went into executive session to consult with legal counsel regarding contract terms and provisions on the interlocal agreement for fire services real property: discuss purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property deliberations regarding Economic Development Negotiations. No action was taken on this session.
Council then approved the last item, authorizing the President and/or the Executive Director of MPEDC to execute a Performance Agreement and any and all documents necessary for MPEDC to provide assistance for a Corporate Headquarters location inside the City of Mount Pleasant city limits.
