Pewitt girls 2nd, boys 5th; HB girls 7th, boys 11th at Doug Sibley Relays

Pewitt and Harts Bluff opened their track season the day after storms rolled through the area, but fortunately, conditions were wet, yet improved for the annual Doug Sibley Relays, hosted by Pewitt.

Joining the Brahmas and Bulldogs at this year’s event were Clarksville, Como-Pickton, DeKalb, Hughes Springs, James Bowie, Linden-Kildare, Maud, New Boston, Pittsburg, Queen City and Winnsboro.

Due to conditions from the previous night’s storms, the pole vault, shot put and discus events were not held across all divisions and the long jump was not held in the JV boys’ division.

In the varsity boys division, the Brahmas finished fifth and the Bulldogs finished 11th. Pittsburg’s boys won the event for the second consecutive year, followed by Winnsboro and New Boston.

Flemming, 27-8 In the varsity girls’ division, Pewitt finished second behind DeKalb and Harts Bluff finished seventh, the second best finish for a 2A or smaller school at the event.
