Titus County road ro receive turn lane, shoulders

Work scheduled to begin on FM 1735 this spring

A portion of FM 1735 in Titus County is scheduled for improvements soon, according to plans awarded in January by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The project will begin at the intersection of FM 1735 and State Highway 49, and extend 2.1 miles south. “We plan to add a center turn lane plus 10-foot shoulders, using right of way purchased by the county,” said Mount Pleasant Area Engineer Wendy Starkes. “This stretch of road will also be resurfaced and receive new safety lighting.”

H.H. Howard & Sons, Inc. of Daingerfield was awarded the contract with a bid of $11,920,527.81.

Work is expected to begin in May 2023 and is estimated to be complete in December 2025, weather permitting.

“Traffic will be detoured at some point during this project. We will notify local media and utilize our own social media channels to ensure the public is informed ahead of time regarding when this will happen,” Starkes added.
