The Euterpean Club of Mt. Pleasant gathered at 3:45 PM on October 20, 2022 in the lovely home of Frances Beck to enjoy a program of musical duets, “Tea for Two”.
Frances Beck was our most gracious hostess and Mary Jane Cannon was our most gracious co hostess. Mavis Brush was the Program Director.
A business meeting was held. Mavis Brush, Program Director, presented her introduction to “Tea for Two”. Frances Beck and Mary Jane Cannon started our program of duets with a beautiful piano duet “Tea for Two”, lyrics by Irving Caesar and composed by Vincent Youmans. This beautiful song played on two pianos at the same time featuring Frances at the Grand Piano and Mary Jane at the Baby Grand was the perfect beginning for today’s program.
Barbara P. Caldwell and Nancy Alexander performed a lovely vocal duet, “People”, composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Bob Merrill. This beautiful song was sung by Barbara Streisand in the Broadway musical, “Funny Girl”.
Frances Beck and Mary Jane Cannon performed a lovely piano duet,“Ain’t Misbehavin’” composed by Thomas Fats Waller. Frances and Mary Jane played together on both the Grand Piano and the Baby Grand Piano respectfully.
Frances Beck and Mavis Brush performed a beautiful piano duet, “Surla Glace a Sweet Briar” composed by Caroline Crawford. This song is an arpeggio waltz and was played on two pianos featuring Frances on the Grand Piano and Mavis on the Baby Grand.
Frances Beck was the accompanist for all vocal performances.
The program was closed with members standing and reciting the Music Collect.
Refreshments consisting of Pecan Bars, Sausage Pinwheels, Chess Cake Bars, Mixed Nuts, Chicken Salad on a Lettuce Leaf and assorted crackers were served from a beautiful autumn themed table. Beverages of Hot Tea, Coffee and Water were served from a beautiful Silver Service.
