Edvernell Davenport was born on February 13, 1931 in Morris County Texas to Perry Evans Sr. and Etta Turner Evans. One of eight children, Edvernell attended Rose High School in Daingerfield, Texas. She graduated from Ft. Worth School of Cosmetology in 1950. She obeyed the gospel at an early age at her home congregation at the Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ.

Upon her completion of cosmetology school, she moved back to Daingerfield where she would meet and eventually marry Willie D. Davenport in 1951. In union, they built a family with three children: Doris Jacqueline Davenport, Felton Jerome Davenport and Brent O’Keith Davenport.

Working under the late Lelia A. K. Brown, she served her clients for over 70 years. Her clients drove from all over the Ark-La-Tex where they left with beautiful hair styles and a plate full of food. It was amazing to see how gracefully she managed her business while attending to her family.

Sis. Davenport was an active member of the Sheppard Street Church where she taught Sunday school and Ladies Bible Class. She was a student of God’s Word. She remained an active member of the body of Christ until God called her home. In addition, she was a member of several local organizations in the Mt. Pleasant community.

She was the perfect example of a virtuous woman and lived a life of servitude. Her selfless acts were exemplified as an employee at the Villa Assisted Living where she continued to serve others. Always willing to help those in need by feeding the hungry, providing transportation and assisting wherever she was needed. The doors of her home located at the infamous 1211 Earnest Street swung on welcome hinges. Throughout the years Edvernell said “Good Bye” to many of those she loved dearly.
