Clarice Hinson, 94, of Mount Pleasant entered her Heavenly Home on June 11, 2022 surrounded by her family. Clarice was born on October 15, 1927 in Lancaster, New Hampshire to John P. Martin and Bertha (Marshall) Martin, the youngest of 8 children.
Clarice married Luther Rogers Hinson on April 8, 1956 in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 60 years.
Prior to retirement in 1987, Clarice taught school for over 30 years, 23 of which were at Mount Pleasant ISD. She was active in the local chapter of the Texas Teachers’ Retirement Association and was Retired Teacher of the year in 2005.
She was a long-time member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School leader for many years. She enjoyed reading, traveling – having visited all 50 states and 8 countries – and enjoyed the outdoors, whether raising chickens and cattle with her husband, gardening, or just sitting and taking in a breath of fresh air. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and loved and adored spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband, Clarice is preceded in death by her eldest son, Rodney Hinson.
Left to cherish Clarice’s memory is her loving family: son, David R. Hinson; daughter and son-in-law, Judy Hinson Rivers and Mike; grandchildren, John C, Hollingsworth and wife Jordan; Christopher M. Hinson and wife Anna; Lance R. Hollingsworth and wife Jamie; Marshall W. Hollingsworth; great-grandsons, Owen and Hudson Hollingsworth; Mason and Elijah Hollingsworth; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a bonus grandson Carlos Flores.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Center Grove Cemetery with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Clarice’s memory to the Mount Pleasant Public Library.
