Doris Lucille Cogburn Hanks

Doris Lucille Cogburn Hanks, age 84, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, February 19, 2022. She was born on October 6, 1937, in Smackover, Arkansas, to W.H. (Dub) and Ruby Cogburn and welcomed by two adoring older brothers, Lewis and Harmie.

The family moved to Talco, Texas, Doris’ junior year of high school. She soon met the love of her life, Bud Hanks, and on June 22, 1956, they married. Bud and Doris moved to Garland, Texas and the Lord blessed them with two children, Michael “Mike” and Kris, and later moved to Garland, Texas. Doris was a very caring and loving wife and mother. Doris accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of nine. She always put Christ first in her life, and her strong faith put the love of Jesus into action. There wasn’t a day that passed that she wasn’t looking for an opportunity to share the saving grace of Jesus with those whose path she crossed. She was known to enclose scripture cards with letters, cards, and bills.

Bud and Doris, active members of Nevills Chapel Baptist Church, worked the food pantry, frying delicious pies for fundraising, and fellowship with other members. Doris loved being part of the Ladies Auxiliary and was delighted in being in charge of sending notes and greeting cards to the church members. For many years, Doris was the treasurer of the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Association.

The Hanks were owners of Day & Nite Foods for almost twenty years. It was during this time that Doris made many lifelong friends. Doris was known to have two favorites saying: from her favorite song, “One day at a time;” and when things didn’t go quite right, “God’s in control.”

She will be forever missed, but Doris knew Christ as her Savior and has a home in Heaven with him.

Doris is survived by her husband of 65 years, E.A. “Bud” Hanks, her daughter, Kris Elliott, and her husband Tracy. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their aunt. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike, her parents, W.H. and Ruby Cogburn, two brothers, Lewis Cogburn and Harmie Cogburn.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Nevills Chapel Baptist Church. (113 CR 3210, Mt. Pleasant, Tx.) Arrangements are under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home, (2805 S. Jefferson Ave., Mt. Pleasant, Tx, 75455, Phone: (903) 572-3621.)
