Lady Tigers clinch undefeated district title

The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers had already clinched the District 15-5A title last week with their win over Texas High. However, the Lady Tigers clearly subscribe to the theory that if one is going to complete a task, it might as well be completed fully.

To that end, with their victory over Pine Tree Tuesday, the Lady Tigers clinched an undefeated district title and continued their playoff streak under Head Coach Tina Carillo.

Mount Pleasant will take on Tyler High in the bi-district round of the playoffs at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Gladewater High School.

In other bi-district matchups, Texas High will meet Whitehouse, Marshall meets Lufkin and Hallsville takes on Huntsville.

The Lady Lions are 18-15 overall and went 5-5 in district play. They took on Whitehouse in their last game of the season and fell to the Ladycats, 59-50. The game was tied at the half, but Whitehouse started the second half on an 11-1 run to take control of the game. Tyler never got within six points the rest of the game.

Freshman Kalyse Buffin led Tyler with 17 points. Kamora Jackson added 11 points. A’Niya Hartsfield and Jay’Mariea Taylor both finished with six.

The winner of Monday’s game will take on Midlothian or North Forney in the area round.
