The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Red Devils prepared for playoff runs with their games last week.
The Lady Red Devils looked to split their season series with Mount Vernon after a three-point loss at home earlier in the season. The game was pushed back to last Saturday due to icy road conditions.
Down 21-19 at the half and on the road, the Lady Red Devils used a 21-14 second half to solidify a 40-35 win over the Lady Tigers.
Lillian Ellis led Chapel Hill with 14 points and three rebounds. Carolina Newman added 10 points and five rebounds. Katie Hart finished with seven points and Kaylee Tompkins notched six points, five assists and three steals. Mackenzie Espinosa pulled down nine rebounds and added three assists and three steals.
In the boys’ matchup, the Red Devils rolled to a 65- 40 win over the Tigers.
Braden Buchanan led Chapel Hill with 14 points. Casey House added 13 and Adrian Ramirez, Jabo Zachry and Vincent Rodriguez all scored 10. Zachry pulled down six rebounds and House finished with five. Rodriguez added four boards and five assists and Jaydyn Haley finished with three steals.
The Lady Red Devils ended their regular season with a matchup against Mineola. Chapel Hill used a run over the second and third quarters to secure a 51-33 win over the Lady Jackets.
Chapel Hill outscored Mineola in those two quarters, 31-8.
Hart led the Lady Red Devils with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals. Espinosa finished with a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Newman added six points and four rebounds and Ellis finished with four points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tompkins pulled down six rebounds in the win.
The Red Devils looked to split the season series with the Yellowjackets after Mineola won the first game in Mineola. Chapel Hill finished the game on a 25-13 run to pick up a 48-40 win that puts them squarely in the hunt for a district title.
The Red Devil boys ended their regular season Friday at home against Harmony.
The Lady Red Devils open the playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Monday against DeKalb at Pittsburg High School.
