Snow

Edwin “Ed” Lee Snow of Mt. Vernon passed away on December 7, 2021 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs from coronary and pulmonary complications. Ed is preceded in death by his wife Mary Evelyn Snow (Strickland). They were happily married for 48 years until her death in 2014.

Ed was born on August 30, 1932 in Amarillo, Texas and later adopted by Tony and Louise Snow. Ed joined the US Army in 1943, serving in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. After serving during WW II, he was an instructor at the Jump Master School at Fort Bragg, NC. Ed later served in the Korean Conflict, this time in the 82nd Airborne. He recorded 68 jumps in his military career, received 4 Purple Hearts, and spent 14 months in a POW camp in Korea. Ed was an avid reader enjoying religious and military writings. He was a valued member of the Franklin County VFW Post 3992.

Ed is survived by his, his daughter Debbie MacDonald and her husband David of Grandview, TX; his son Toney Snow of Fort Worth and his son Terry Snow and his wife Monica of Helotes, TX. Ed was blessed with 5 grandchildren – Brian Allen of Grandview; Stefanie Allen of Blackshear, GA; Matthew MacDonald of Denver, CO; Mallory Snow of Hollywood Hills, CA and Alex Snow of Helotes, Texas. He had 4 wonderful great grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his brother-in-law Charles Strickland and his wife DeAnn of LaVernia, TX, and 8 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Snow at Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, where he was a member, on Sunday, December 12 at 3pm. Mr. Snow will be laid to rest at Woodman Cemetery with his wife Mary on Monday, December 13 in a private graveside service. Officiants for the services are Dr. Tom Wray and Dr. Tom Campbell.
