Of whopper bass, fat cats, new lake records and a $300,000 REDCREST haul

On April 2, Oklahoma bass angler Cullie Beveal (left) reeled in a 16.39 pounder at Lake O.H Ivie that ranks as the No. 20 heaviest Texas bass of all-time. Beveal donated the fish for permanent display in a 25,000-gallon aquarium at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens. The angler was guided by Kyle Hall, who reportedly located the fish on a spawning bed in 6-8 feet of water using forward-facing sonar.
