Juadeen Kinder Shurbet

Juadeen Kinder Shurbet, surrounded by her family and faithful dog Dixie, passed away January 22, 2025 in Mt. Vernon, Texas, at the age of 89.

Juadeen was born to Bunice Kinder and Loyce Cody Kinder in the family farmhouse in Franklin County on the outskirts of Winfield on May 3, 1935. Graduating valedictorian from Winfield High School in 1953, Juadeen married the love of her life Bob Shurbet in 1958. She and Bob spent their 53 years together and raised their three children in Winfield.

From a very young age, Juadeen was well-known as a gifted pianist. She played for Sunday afternoon singings, weddings, and funerals in Franklin and the surrounding counties. She accompanied other musicians and quartets as they performed on AM radio programs, and she was the organist and pianist for the First Baptist Church of Winfield for nearly 70 years. She also spent more than 60 years as a secretary and organist for what is now Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.

In her later years, Juadeen became Deenie to her beloved grandchildren. She and Bob traveled the country with their children and grandchildren, but she loved a drive through the family farm as much as any place in the world. Juadeen was an exceptional cook and baker, and she enjoyed blessing her family with their favorites, particularly homemade pies and desserts. Juadeen is preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sister Betty Lawrence and brother Cody Kinder. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, son Greg Shurbet and wife Barbara of Mt. Pleasant, daughter Jill Alexander and husband Jon of Tyler, daughter Heidi Wooten and husband Chad of Mt. Vernon; her grandchildren Katie Prescott and husband Cody of Floresville, Texas, Sarah Weeks and husband Brian of Houston, William Alexander and wife Caroline of San Antonio, Connor Cobern, Ellie Wooten, and Mia Wooten of Mt. Vernon; great grandchildren Kyzer and Castyn Prescott; Everett, Luke and Elle Weeks.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Chapel with services Saturday, January 25 at 11:00 AM.

The family would like to thank Marie and Dr. Gene Latortue and the staff of the Mt. Vernon House for their exceptional care and unwavering kindness, and Chambers Hospice for their compassionate care.
