Abbott appoints Comenero as interim attorney general

Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Angela Colmenero as the interim Attorney General of Texas, under Article 15, Section 5 of the Texas Constitution, effective 10 a.m. July 14. This announcement follows the departure of John Scott, who the Governor appointed as the short-term interim Attorney General of Texas in May.

NTCC hosting EagleGanza

NTCC has begun hosting their EagleGanzas for the summer — the first one was held in June, and another will be held tomorrow, with two more scheduled. Anyone planning to attend NTCC for the first time in fall 2023 is highly encouraged to attend one of the three remaining dates.

NTCC hosts ‘Summer Success Program’

NTCC’s Summer Success Program is designed for students who are transitioning from high school to college. Students receive a scholarship allowing them to live on the NTCC campus free of charge during the summer while enrolled in six college credit hours. Any student is eligible to participate the summer immediately following their high school graduation. This year, there are 41 students in the program.

Arrest made in connection to death of Mount Pleasant man

An arrest has been made in connection to the 2018 death of a Mount Pleasant man. The Mount Pleasant Tribune previously reported that 23-year-old James Miranda, a 2013 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, had been one of five who were killed in a large apartment fire at Iconic Village Apartments in San Marcos in July 2018.
