Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund receives $2,000

Christi Denney (left) recently presented Nita May, Director of Development with the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation, with $2,000 to support the Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund. Multiple donations were received to contribute to the scholarship in memory of JW Hooper, father of Denney and DeWoody, who passed away in 2023.

Free GED, ESL classes start Aug. 28

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration. While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center ( formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant. Please call 903434-8341 for an appointment. In-person, remote, and online self-paced options will be available. Honors film week continues

Members of Honors Northeast and the NTCC Webb Society are in the midst of an intense film week that has taken them, in 100-degree weather, from Lake Bob Sandlin to Lake Nacogdoches. They are working on their twelfth feature-length film on Texas history legends. This year’s script is about the traveling preachers of early Texas.
