MPISD breaks ground on project

Mount Pleasant ISD celebrated the beginning of a construction project with a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning. The project includes a complete transformation of the front of the high school, with a new entryway, and more. Classrooms and interior will also be renovated. Inside cars adorned with signs, streamers and paint were citizens and business owners of Mount Pleasant participating in the peace parade, which was held Saturday. It was held to encourage unity and equality upon people, as well as bring awareness to the community.

Mount Pleasant High School held its graduation ceremony June 5 at Sam Parker Field. (Right) Graduates stand as the National Anthem played in the beginning of the ceremony. Four graduates took their turn on stage to speak about the resilience of the Class of 2020. For more photos of the MPHS graduation ceremony, see page 14.

GILBERT ROY JOHNSON

Gilbert Roy Johnson, age 74, passed away at his home on June 9, 2020. Gib was born on May 1, 1946 to Haskell and Tannie Newman Johnson in Tyler, Texas. Marring the love of his life, Sue Bynum, on June 10, 1967. Gib pastored 47 years at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cookville. He was a very dedicated and faithful pastor, loving his church family as he did his own family.
