Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has launched the Texas Rent Relief Program — the first statewide rent and utility assistance program for qualifying households throughout Texas. This program has been created to administer the more than $1 billion allocated to Texas through the latest federal COVID-19 stimulus bill. TDHCA will begin accepting applications for the program on Monday, February 15th, but Texans can visit TexasRentRelief.com starting today to learn more about qualifications, required documents, and the application process.
Though officials announced last week that our area is no longer considered to have high hospitalizations, Titus County Judge Brian Lee, Titus Regional Medical Center, and the City of Mount Pleasant are urging local residents to continue to take the necessary virus precautions.
On February 5, emergency services responded to Sisters Bistro on Ferguson Road after a vehicle crashed into the restaurant’s front window. The front window and the bricks surrounding the window were damaged in the accident. According to Sisters Bistro, no major injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
On February 4, Titus County Judge Brian Lee received notice from the Texas Department of State Health Services that our trauma service area, TSA-F, is no longer deemed a high hospitalization area.
On Thursday, State Representative Cole Hefner, R-Mount Pleasant, was appointed as vice chairman for the House Committee on Business and Industry. He also received appointments to the Committee on Calendars and the Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety. As vice-chair on the Business and Industry Committee, Representative Hefner will help lead on important issues such as manufacturing, unemployment, the construction industry, and identity theft prevention measures. As a member of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, Representative Hefner will shape policy surrounding law enforcement, crime prevention, the defense of our state and nation against terrorism, and disaster response and recovery. Finally, on the Calendars Committee, Representative Hefner will have significant input on legislation heard on the House Floor in the 87th legislative session.
