The time after WWII was a continuing of our nation’s recovery and the beginning of a new and improved life. Actually, it was the best of times and the worst of times. For the worst, look at the American farm, which began to collapse in the war’s aftermath. The small, family owned farm, which had organically fed our country so well, was slowly pushed aside as large conglomerates took control. Combined with this were the beginnings of a chemical revolution that radically changed the face of farming.

Earthworms

Subterranean passages beneath your feet are the homes to millions of small slimy creatures that we call earthworms. While they are often seen as dirty and somewhat disgusting, they build the soil upon which farmers rely like few other creatures can do.

Texas horned lizard hatchling release marks milestone to save state reptile

FORT WORTH - Once common, the Texas horned lizard is now one of more than 1,300 species of concern across the state. But there is good news for the little “horned toad.” Today, a coalition of zoos and wildlife scientists released 204 captive-raised hatchlings into the wild (100 of them hatched at the Fort Worth Zoo), and this follows new evidence this year that previously released lizards are now reproducing. Meanwhile, a landmark bipartisan proposal now moving through Congress, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, would bring the resources needed to save this species and hundreds like it.

MPHS Theatre announces first production of the season

The Theatre Department of Mount Pleasant High School proudly announces its production of Sam Shepard’s OBIE Award winning play, Action. The play focuses on four people as they cope with an unnamed disaster that has affected all of society. They are “beginning to get it back a little” as one of the characters observes. We see them doing “the best they can” at Christ mas time when they are lucky that they could find a turkey to roast for dinner.
