The Welsh Power Plant celebrated their 45th Anniversary on July 19. Dedicated on July 29, 1977 after less than four years of construction, it was the first plant in the SWEPCO network’s history to be run on coal instead of natural gas, the first shipments of coal being delivered from Wyoming in 1976.

I entered the giant room with round tables and folders at each chair and checked into the writer’s conference. In this meeting room, the guest speakers would pour out varying topics for the listeners to digest, and I would take lots of notes. It’s great to hang out with other writers, some write children’s books, others novels, some write for newspapers, others write poetry, and some are beginning their journey.

Nitrate and prussic acid poisoning in cattle are noninfectious conditions that can kill livestock. Although it is uncommon in normal years, these poisonings occur when cattle eat forages stressed from severe environmental conditions such as drought. The stress disrupts normal plant growth and may cause plants to accumulate too much nitrate or prussic acid. Although the growing conditions causing them are similar the diseases differ. There are many plants that may accumulate nitrates and prussic acid, however, Johnsongrass is usually our greatest concern.
