“Who will tell our story?”

Sue Hall was eight years old in 1952, and attending school like other children her age. One morning she became violently sick for no apparent reason. Her teacher called Sue’s mother, who took her to the doctor’s office immediately.

The doctor, suspicious this was more than a stomach bug, sent Sue and her mother to Texarkana for a spinal tap and further examination.

The doctor’s fears were realized, and Sue Hall was diagnosed with that dread disease polio at eight years of age. She spent the next three months in a hospital bed.
