Tribune publisher Kenny Mitchell was honored at last weekend’s Texas Association of Journalism Educators conference in San Antonio with the 2022 Friends of Journalism Award.
Friend of Journalism Awards are given in appreciation of efforts to expand the scope and capability of Texas scholastic journalism. Mitchell was presented the award for his efforts over the years of supporting journalism in the local school districts that he covered as a publisher at the Bowie County Citizens Tribune. He was nominated for the award by Redwater High School Journalism instructor Tabitha Houchens.
Houchens was at the conference and accepted the award on Mitchell’s behalf noting, “It truly was my honor to nominate and accept the award for you Kenny Mitchell. You deserve it so much more than you realize. Thanks for all you do.”
