The arts are alive and well in Titus County and that will soon be very apparent as the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra is currently tuning itself for a special Superheroes performance.

Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra will present their Summer Concert, Superheroes in Concert, on Saturday, August 6, at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College.

The playlist for the night will feature tunes with superhero themes from your favorites from both the DC and Marvel universes.

The orchestra will be playing the musical themes from Marvel and DC movies and television shows including music from Captain America, Black Panther, Superman Returns, The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, Ant-Man, Spider Man No Way Home, The Avengers, the 1960’s Batman tv show theme, and the DC television shows The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

The Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra is a project of the heart a decade in the making. In 2009, a group of string instrument enthusiasts gathered to play string orchestra music. Over the years, it has rehearsed at Deanna Warren’s Music Connection, Northeast Texas Community College and various churches. After Covid-19 and the lack of live musical performances, the group became the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra and is on a mission to provide an outlet for musicians to perform for our local community of music lovers.

The Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra is made up of adults and students in the area who enjoy coming together and making music.

David Mills, director of the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra told the Tribune this week, “This is our second season. Last season, we were a string orchestra, but this season we have added brass, woodwinds, and percussion sections. We hold three concerts a year - a pops concert in the summer, a Christmas concert, and a classical concert in late spring.”

The concerts are free, with donations gladly accepted.
