The Mount Pleasant City Council took action in their meeting this week to work towards a resolution with the issue on fire protection across Titus County and work with county commissioners to ensure the safety of all residents within the county. In their meeting earlier this week, county leaders voted 3-0 to create a county-wide fire department and terminate a decades long contract for fire protection with the City of Mount Pleasant Fire Department.
The last item on the city council’s agenda Tuesday night was considering the approval of an interlocal agreement for fire services with Titus County. Mayor Pro Tem, Tim Dale moved, “That the city rescinds the one-month extension of the existing fire contract approved on October 3rd, 2022. That the city extends the existing fire contract with Titus County from October 1st, 2022 to September 30th, 2023 for 1.3 million dollars to allow the county the opportunity to consider establishing its own department or to negotiate a long-term contract with the city. That such negotiations must begin with significant time to allow the long-term contract to be comwww.
