An early morning altercation at the Mount Pleasant Whataburger on Jefferson left a local man dead and another behind bars.

The Mount Pleasant Police responded to a 911 call at approximated 2:18 a.m. on February 25 and when officers arrived on the scene they found a male in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. EMS responded to the location and treat the male, but he died a short time later at Titus Regional Medical Center.

Officers discovered that multiple parties were involved in an altercation inside the restaurant, and they were told to leave. As they exited the business the victim was shot by the suspect. Officers with the MPPD identified multiple witnesses who were questioned regarding the incident.

The department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and was able to identify a suspect a short time later. At approximately 9:20 a.m. that same morning, detectives arrested Kentravion Jajuan Evans (18 years old) and booked him into the Titus County Jail for Texas Penal code 19.02, Murder. At this time, no other suspects are outstanding.

The victim was identified as Damien Oneal Jackson (30 years old), a resident of Mount Pleasant.

The MPPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
