Let’s celebrate World Food Day mindfully

County Extension Agent - Family & Community Health

Good nutrition is essential to lead a healthy life and for normal growth and development. A lack of regular access to adequate and safe food may result in hunger and food insecurity. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations established the World Food Day, observed every year worldwide on October 16th to raise awareness and fight against hunger and poverty around the world.

“Food brings people together in a variety of ways, from family gatherings, football games, holidays and even first dates. We all have a favorite food or foods. World Food Day is a great time to celebrate the wonderful food we have available to eat, but it is about raising awareness for people who do not have such privilege. People all over the world suffer from hunger, even locally”, says, Lou Ann Rollins, Family and Community Health County Agent.
