The Texas Parks and Wildlife is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the creation of the State Parks Board with several events in the parks throughout the state.

January 28 saw several kids from as far away as the Dallas area come and try their hand at catching a slippery rainbow trout. There were two fishing sessions, and several fishing poles were gifted to kids who wanted one. A Dutch oven demonstration showcasing how to prepare and cook fish was presented, and the TPWD fisheries biologists brought an electrofishing boat and explained how it is used to manage the fisheries resources of the state.

The trout pond at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park had been stocked with flashy rainbow trout and the kids both young and old hooked quite a few before the day was done in spite of the rain and cloudy skies.
