Surviving family members of a woman who was killed in a 2016 crash were awarded $730 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.

On Feb. 21, 2016, Toni Combest was killed on White Oak Bridge when her vehicle was struck by an oversized cargo truck authorized by Landstar Ranger, Inc. The driver of the truck, which was hauling a U.S. Navy submarine propeller, had moved out of the authorized lane, hitting Combest’s vehicle. She died at the scene.

The plaintiffs were awarded a total of $730 million, making this the largest single fatality case in the country.

Brent Goudarzi of Goudarzi & Young represented the family of Combest. Nelson Roach of Roach Langston Bruno tried the case with Goudarzi.

Goudarzi said he was amazed at how hard the jury worked and their dedication to justice.
