BREAKING: Mt. Pleasant city manager resigns after two months

On Friday, May 23, the City of Mount Pleasant announced that the recently hired city manager, Kimberly Meeks, resigned from her position.

Meeks was hired by the previous city council and started working as City Manager on March 10, 2025. She came in after the city spent a year with Greg Nyhoff serving as Interim City Manager. The official role has been empty ever since the previous city manager, Ed Thatcher, was forced to resign due to a series of indictments stemming from mileage reimbursements.

As for the reason why Meeks resigned, she said in the press release, “After considerable reflection and due to unexpected personal family matters out of state, I write this letter to notify you that I am resigning my position as City Manager of Mount Pleasant, effective immediately.”

Meeks also said, “The past few months have been filled with new experiences, and I value all the professional relationships I’ve developed here. The City is fortunate to have such dedicated Directors with a true heart to serve.”

Candias Webster, Assistant City Manager, will be acting city manager until further plans are announced. In the coming weeks, the city council will consider the appointment of an Interim City Manager and will outline a plan for next steps on the recruitment of a new City Manager.
