Juneteenth, falling on June 19 each year, is a day ingrained in the history of African Americans in Texas; on this day in 1865, Texas slaves were finally told of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, is a day of celebration and remembrance of the progress that has been made since the times of slavery.
