The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm WARNING for the region, with the potential for below-freezing temperatures, freezing rain, sleet, and ice.
The City of Mt. Pleasant is preparing for possible impacts and encourages residents to take steps now to protect themselves, their families, and their homes.
Residents should stay informed through trusted weather sources and take basic safety precautions, including insulating exposed pipes, testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, dressing in layers, limiting time outdoors, and keeping pets indoors. Space heaters should be kept away from flammable materials, and grills or generators should never be used indoors.
The Mt. Pleasant Civic Center, located at 1800 N. Jefferson, may serve as a warming center during extended business hours if power outages are widespread or prolonged. Updated information regarding the warming center will be shared through Facebook and the City’s Emergency Alerting System, Civic Ready.
City crews will remain active throughout the weather event. Emergency Management personnel are monitoring conditions and coordinating the city’s response, while Street and Water Department teams are preparing equipment and crews to address icy roadways, downed limbs, and potential water emergencies.
Residents needing assistance shutting off water service should contact the Mt. Pleasant Police Department at 903-575-4000.
