Younger legs prevail as Hill vs. Hill game pits Chapel Hill boys against alumni
On Tuesday, the Chapel Hill boys basketball program hosted its 3rd annual Hill vs Hill event.
The event provides an opportunity for Chapel Hill alumni to come back to meet and play the current varsity basketball team.
The varsity came out on top, 68-62.
The alumni team is basically composed on some of Chapel Hill’s all-star players from the past. This year the players ranged from the class of 1998 to the class of 2014.
Some people forget that this year’s graduating class will only be the 20th in school history. Coaches have been pleased about the alumni’s attitude as they have embraced this year’s varsity as their team also.
For each alumnus, the introductions include where they currently live and what their favorite moments of being a Chapel Hill basketball player were. Most of the players’ favorite moments involve lifelong bonds of friendship with teammates and being part of a family.
In the first game, the JV Red and JV white squared off against each other. The second game was varsity vs. the alumni. The game started with a frenzy of 3’s as both teams started with five 3-point makes and a total of 20 three pointers made — 10 by each team — for the game.
“I was pleased with how the boys responded when the game went into the overtime after a shaky 4th quarter. They didn’t put their heads down, they just kept fighting. The varsity team learned some valuable lessons that can be used in the future,” said Head Coach P. Anthony Williams.
The boys will be in action against Saturday as they compete in the TABO Classic in Whitehouse vs. Tyler TK Gorman at 1:30 p.m. Sub-varsity will be in action Tuesday against White Oak at Chapel Hill starting at 5 p.m. with JV Red, then JV White; varsity at 7:30.
