Tigers see good results from opening basketball scrimmage
The Mount Pleasant Tigers experienced their first game action of the 2017-2018 season earlier this week in a doubleheader, multi-team scrimmage at Rains High School in Emory.
The first match of the day ended in a victory for the Tigers. The final score was Mount Pleasant 72, Quinlan 48
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against Quinlan in the first scrimmage of the day.
Stifling defense and sharp shooting from the outside were the key ingredients for the Tigers’ success.
The second scrimmage didn’t end the way the Tigers had hoped as they lost to Royse City. The final ended up Mount Pleasant 46, Royse City 50
The Tigers held a 10-point lead at halftime but couldn’t hang on for the victory after a hard fought, back-and-forth second half. It was a great test for Mount Pleasant as fans on both sides created an intense atmosphere.
A mixture of freshman, junior varsity and varsity players made up the competition squad for the Tigers. For the team to finish the day 1-1 was a great accomplishment as they were competing against two complete varsity teams.
Competing in the scrimmage were the following players:
Senior Josh McGill
Senior Kevin Savage
Senior Christon Himes
Junior Aaron Antone
Junior Ricky Guereca
Junior Destin Steinmetz
Junior Marco Orona
Sophomore Tyler Luck
Freshman Logan Dunn
The Tigers will continue to improve on the practice floor until their regular season home opener versus Greenhill School on Friday, Nov. 17. Only varsity will be competing that night.
