Tigers fall to Sulphur Springs on Senior Night 2017
This past Friday the Mount Pleasant Tigers took on the Sulphur Springs Wildcats in a last ditch effort to force a 3-way tie for fourth in district.
In what would be the last home game of the year for the Tigers, the high school hosted a pregame ceremony for the senior players. The seniors for the Tigers are: Terrance Allen, Juan Ottino, Buddy McGill, Jeremiah Roney, Micah Grant, K.J. Cannon, Kelvin Heath, Detrick Kinney, Daniel Landaverde, Jesus Perez, Edher Oviedo, Christian Rivas, Rene Olguin, Emmanuel Moreno, Chris Clavel, Juan Gonzalez, Austin Mitchell, Angel Serna and Eduardo Esparza.
The Tigers would not be able to grab a victory to commemorate the last home game for the class of 2018, falling to the Wildcats 31-14.
The Tigers had lost their leading rusher the week before to injury. With that injury we saw Coach Corey Homer look to find a playmaker in the backfield. Tyke Fluellen and Dorian Glinton handled the duties for the Tigers.
The first half was razor-thin and had the makings of a close game. The Tigers would open up the game with a long touchdown run from Tyke Fluellen. With 5:41 left in the first quarter the Tigers led 7-0. The Wildcats would answer with two touchdowns of their own to make the score 14-7 in favor of the Wildcats at the half.
The second half would not go as planned as the Tigers would give up 31 unanswered points. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Tigers trailed 31-7.
The Tigers saw their season slip away as they would only be able to score one more touchdown with 46 seconds remaining. Junior Deandre Grant would be the one to cross the goal line.
The final score was 31-14 in favor of the Sulphur Springs Wildcats.
The Tigers will have a bye week before facing off with the Greenville Lions on Nov. 10. It will be the Tigers’ last chance to get a win in district play.
