Pine Tree beats Mount Pleasant volleyball in key district contest

This past Friday the Mount Pleasant Lady Tiger Volleyball team followed the Football team down Highway 271 to face the Pine Tree Pirates. With their backs against the wall the Lady Tigers needed to pull out a victory if they were to keep their playoff hopes alive. With a district recored of 2-5 the Lady Tigers could only afford to lose one more match before they would need help from other district teams. Unfortunately the Lady Tigers would fall short in three straight sets.

The Lady Tigers would fight valiantly but just couldn’t finish the Lady Pirates off. In the first set the Lady Tigers would be up 23-22 and give up 3 straight points to lose the set 23-25. In what would be a theme for the match, the Tigers just could not seem to score the last few points of the set.

At the start of the second set the Lady Tigers seemed to respond well and came out swinging, jumping all over the Pirates early.

The Lady Tigers would hold a 22-16 lead before the Lady Pirates would call a time out to regroup. It was all hands on deck for the Lady Pirates as they stormed back to win the set 23-25. The Lady Tigers were stunned in a set that seemed all but decided — the Lady Pirates had stolen the victory.

In a crucial set 3 the Lady Tigers would again put up a valiant effort but come out on the losing end, 22-25. It was a tough night for the Lady Tigers as they seemed to have all the weapons to take down the Pirates.

It has been a tough season for the Tigers as they seem to be one or two plays away from winning each set. The Lady Tigers will host Marshall this Friday evening. It will be Mount Pleasant’s Senior Night and the last home game of the season.

Varsity will play first at 4:30. Come out and support your Lady Tigers.
