MP Tigers’ win column looking better and better
The Mount Pleasant Tigers kept their winning streak alive this past weekend and improved their record to 8-2 at the Union Grove Longview Officials/Chickfil-A Tournament.
Below are capsules from individual tournament contests:
Mount Pleasant 58, Lindale 43
An opening round matchup with Lindale saw the Tigers face a fundamental, disciplined team. Mount Pleasant led for most of the game, but Lindale fought back and took the lead midway through the third quarter. The Tigers quickly responded with a 9-0 run — and would maintain the advantage the rest of the way.
Kevin Savage led the team with 13 points. Dorian Glinton and Buddy Mc-Gill each had 10 points. Other scorers were KJ Cannon and Anterius Beard with 7 points each; Josh McGill, 6 points; Josh Morris, 3 points; and Jamarion Brown, 2 points. Buddy McGill also led the Tigers with 5 steals.
Mount Pleasant 71, Kilgore 45
The Tigers never trailed in this one, as it was an up-and-down game from the get-go. A steady increase of the lead and a stout 25-6 advantage in the third quarter gave the Tigers the win. Dorian Glinton led all scorers with 18 points. Kevin Savage added 14 points with Buddy McGill and Christon Himes each chipping in
11. Other scorers were Josh McGill and Jamarion Brown with 4 points; Anterius Beard and Aaron Antone, 3 points; Josh Morris, 2 points; and KJ Cannon, 1 point.
Mount Pleasant 47, John Tyler 42
In a physical, athletic game the Tigers came out victorious by scoring some easy baskets late to secure the victory. John Tyler led for most of the first two quarters before the Tigers went on a run and took a 7-point lead heading into halftime. The Tigers maintained that lead until John Tyler knotted things up early in the 4th.
A late push against the John Tyler press gave the Tigers several layups to finish off the Lions. Buddy McGill led all scorers with 19 points in the paint. Josh McGill added 8 points and 11 rebounds. Dorian Glinton also scored 8 points, with Kevin Savage and KJ Cannon chipping in 6 points each.
The Tigers are back at home this week. The Whitehouse Wildcats will visit Willie Williams Gym on Friday. Fans are encouraged to come cheer on the Tigers.
