Mount Pleasant Tigers basketball season preview
This past season the Mount Pleasant Tiger basketball team went an astounding 25-6 overall and 12-0 in district play, leading to a definitive district championship. Lead by Coaches Joey Chism and Drew Barkley, the basketball program has only been getting better. In a district with athletic powerhouses such as Texas High and Marshall, the Tigers basketball team shines. The Tigers advanced to the second round of the playoffs last year, which felt like exiting too soon. There is plenty of hunger in the Tigers’ locker room, as they are hoping to make a bid for the State tournament. The Tigers look to continue their success after an undefeated district season last year. Returning four of their five starters and bringing up some strong young talent, the Tigers have a great chance to repeat as district champions and make a strong playoff push. They will be tested early as they attend a tournament at Frisco Lone Star.
They will also match up against playoff perennials Paris, Pleasant Grove and Whitehouse. District play begins Dec. 19 versus Hallsville. Sulphur Springs will be the main threat to the Tigers defense of last year’s district championship. Texas High will also challenge the Tigers as they do year in and year out.
